Die Trinkhalle

Vincent Klusák & Nave Knafo
21.07.-30.07.2026

For ten days, a new Trinkhalle will appear in the heart of Frankfurt's Neue Altstadt.
Located at fffriedrich on Braubachstraße, the project transforms the exhibition space
into a temporary interpretation of one of Germany's most familiar—yet increasingly
overlooked—institutions of everyday urban life.

Historically, the Trinkhalle has never been merely a place to buy a drink.
It is a neighbourhood meeting point where conversations begin, news is exchanged,
people wait, observe the street, and encounter one another. In many German cities,
the Trinkhalle has long functioned as an informal public living room, quietly shaping
everyday social life.

With Die Trinkhalle, this familiar social space enters the context of an exhibition.
Rather than presenting the Trinkhalle as an object to be observed, the exhibition
adopts its logic. Visitors are invited to stay, talk, browse, participate in a live LOTTO
drawing, and experience the exhibition through ordinary acts of exchange.

The exhibition turns its attention to those who continuously construct the city in
the present—its neighbours, shopkeepers, passers-by, conversations, acts of exchange,
and everyday encounters. Urban memory, it suggests, is not inherited once and for all,
but is continually produced through participation, coincidence, and daily life.
